Rosco's gaffertape is a strong water resistant, wide adhesive tape made of a cross-linked ('woven') fabric with a plastic layer, which is easy to tear and is designed (in contrast to duct tape) not to peel off paint or glue marks when removed. 

Gaffertape is used, for example, in theater, television and film productions and in music performances where a lot of cables are used. In those situations it is used to position cables on the floor and to prevent tripping over them and / or to hide them - usually with black tape. The term refers to the gaffer, the person responsible for lighting and electricity in the theater, stage or studio.

The Chromakey technique is often used within the TV & film world. A subject is first filmed against a green or blue background. After that one can use color filters, or nowadays with computers, to make that background transparent so that the filmed character or object can be placed in front of another background.
